Handwritten letter from daughter to her mother giving details of every day life in Charleston, South Carolina. She writes briefly of the "California fever" in the town and her plans to "sail for San Francisco on the 10th of March." Other details include: reports of children beginning school, another woman's plan to attend the "inauguration," descriptions of weather including reports of snow and frozen water in fountains, the creation of syllabub ice cream for the children, and the price of the sale of the "Thomas Bennett" (Charleston home of the former governor of South Carolina) for $22,000.
